For some time now, whenever I use the reverse pedal on my hydrostatic transmission, it has not quite been coming back into sync with the forward pedal, with the result that a safety mechanism is engaged so that you canÕt leave the seat without the engine dying. I eventually discovered that this problem could be temporarily addressed by pressing down slightly on the forward pedal, which seems to clear the safety mechanism and bring the pedals back into sync. Naturally, I would like to find a permanent cure for this problem if I can, without having to take it in to the dealer. I have tried lubricating everything in sight with WD40, as well as making sure the grease fitting for the pedals has plenty of grease. But this seems to have no effect. Has anybody had any experience with anything like this? Does it sound like a lubrication issue? Switch malfunction? IÕd be happy to have any and all suggestions.
Incidentally, the tractor is a JD4400 with 260 hours.

Doug,
It's a pedal linkage adjustment thing. Had the same problem on my 4700, the dealer sent out a machanic and he raised the entire machine off the ground and adjusted the linkage until there was no tire movement forward or backward that is neutral no more problem.

A further report on the problem I described. My dealer sent a mechanic out, and he solved the problem. Turns out it wasn't quite what David had. It was a transmission neutral switch that wasn't making solid contact all the time. The pedal balance between forward and back was apparently involved. Depressing the forward pedal repeatedly would eventually make a good contact, and then it would start. With the switch properly adjusted, it starts every time. ....
